Where our wood comes from

Every piece of furniture at Prairie Barnwood is made from reclaimed boards and timbers, unless otherwise specified. All the barns we dismantle are located in Manitoba and Ontario. The barns are all 80 to 100 years old. The species are generally pine, fir, hemlock, and sometimes Manitoba oak. The wood we use is full of inherent character, blemishes, holes, and various textures. These are not considered defects. Only the elements, oxidation, and time cause the wood to turn this wonderful patina.

The barnwood is kiln dried before we uniquely craft each piece of furniture. You can expect saw marks and different textures between the various pieces of wood used in each piece of furniture, unless otherwise specified. These are the natural saw marks, natural imperfections, and weathered texture created over time. Occasionally, there may be some nail holes. These add character and are authentic to the history of the barn. When combined, the various textures and inherent character give each piece of furniture its own character – no two pieces are ever exactly alike and nor do we guarantee any piece will look exactly the same.

Damage Policy

If visible damage to the crate appears to be slight, please note it on the Proof of Delivery form. Do not destroy the crate. Upon inspection of the contents if you notice damage please take photos and send them to your sales representative or our shipping department. In most cases slight damage can easily be repaired with materials we will send to you.

If damage to the crate is severe, you have the option of immediately refusing delivery of your order or to inspect the contents before accepting. Either way, you must note the damage on the Proof of Delivery form. Failing to note damage will affect Prairie Barnwood Ltd.’s ability to file a damage claim on your behalf. If a replacement is necessary, the replacement will be shipped via the same method and to the same location originally chosen.

This warranty protects you only when you purchase your furniture from Prairie Barnwood Ltd. and is only applicable for normal household use, not for commercial use.

Proper care and use are essential to preserving your rights under this warranty. Prairie Barnwood Ltd. will not repair or replace your furniture if improper maintenance or improper use causes damage. This warranty does not apply if your Prairie Barnwood Ltd. product is damaged by the use of detergents, abrasives or other harsh cleaning agents. This warranty does not cover floor samples or products designated “AS IS” at the time of purchase.

Solid wood reacts to the amount of humidity in your home. Long periods of low humidity will dry wood and cause splitting, cracking, and warping. Exposing your furniture to excessive dampness is also something that should be avoided. Controlling your indoor relative humidity year-round between 40% – 45% will eliminate these problems. When arranging furniture in your home, be thoughtful to avoid heat vents and direct sunlight to prevent discoloration, drying, and cracking.

Action on any claim for major warping/ major structural cracking may be deferred up to 1 year after the project completion to permit pieces to acclimate to temperature and humidity conditions. The deferral period does not count against the warranty period.

Warranty Limitations:

If you find your bed/ tabletop/ furniture etc. to be loose, you are responsible for basic maintenance like tightening a bolt, wing-nut, or possibly a wood screw.

If the identical materials are not available at the time of repair or replacement, we reserve the right to substitute materials of equal or greater value.

The warranty does not cover furniture found to be abused, misused, exposed to improper humidity levels and/or unsanitary condition.

The warranty does not cover furniture that has been used for commercial purposes such as, but not limited to a hotel, motel, or nursing home.

Heirloom Furniture is expected to gain minor checks, cracks and other imperfections as it ages through the decades. These minor imperfections are not considered defects.

It is common knowledge that dining chairs will gain minor movement in their journey over a period of time/use. This is not a manufacturer defect but rather another example of a fine piece of furniture becoming an heirloom.

Unfinished furniture will be void of this warranty.

Delivery/ Shipping charges are not covered by Prairie Barnwood Ltd. Unless delivery/ shipping service was provided by Prairie Barnwood Ltd. on the original order. Pick ups are the client’s responsibility to return for repairs.

Prairie Barnwood Ltd. will not be liable for any loss, expense, or damage other than to the furniture itself that may result from a defect in the furniture.
