Prairie Barnwood was founded by Blayne Wyton in 2008. He first started wood working refurbishing and refinishing antique furniture in 2001 when he founded Windsor Furniture. It was during a trip to Ontario that the vision for PBW was born, to create handcrafted furniture in a country style from reclaimed wood.

Working from our shop near Morden, Manitoba we dismantle old barns, wood structures and old homesteads. The wood we salvage comes from across Canada, mainly in the Southern Manitoba area. Typically we salvage old growth Douglas Fir from the early to mid 1900’s.

Once the barn/structure has been dismantled it is taken back to our shop where it is sorted by type and dimensions before it is kiln dried to stabilize the moisture content. Each of our solid wood products are built with it’s own unique character and patina. Most pieces includes knots, burrs, nail holes and other features that tell the story and history of the years and seasons throughout the wood. Our kitchen and bar countertops have a water based stain and color of your choice applied, then five coats of food safe water base hardwood floor finished applied to the surface.

At Prairie Barnwood we believe that recycling is the way forward to save our existing forests and ecology. In August 2010 we received an award for our work from the MSTW Community Led Emissions Reduction Program for ‘An outstanding contribution to green initiatives and sustainable practices.’

Please have a look through our online catalogue or if you’d prefer we can email you one! If you are looking to have a custom piece created to your own dimensions, design or vision we would love to help you with that.

At Prairie Barnwood we continue to create tomorrow heirlooms today!
